Since 1992, Energy Star and its partners have helped families and businesses save over $450 billion and over 3.5 trillion kilowatt hours of electricity. In its early stages, the Energy Star Program was part of the US strategy to shed light on global warming, by reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Incentives for private industries to reduce emission reductions were designed. These incentives were designed to increase energy efficiency. Today, The Energy Star Program remains a partnership between businesses, organizations, and the Federal Government. As part of this partnership, organizations can use the Energy Star name as part of the energy efficiency and environmental activities.

What sets Energy Star apart from other products is the amount of energy they use. Unlike other appliances, Energy Star strives to reduce the amount of energy their products use. To earn the Energy Star, products must meet specific energy requirements that are set by the US Environmental Protection Agency or by the US Department of Energy. Because these products are energy efficient, they are expected to save you more money and help protect the environment.
Requirements:
- The project is located in the United States or owned by US Government
- The design project is for an entire property
- Design project meets eligibility criteria to receive the 1-100 Energy Star score and inputs for property use
- Estimated energy use includes all fuel types and all energy associated with operating the building
- The project is saved in Portfolio Manager and does not include any default values the property use details
- Project earns an Energy Star rating of 75 or above

Choosing Energy Star certified heating or cooling equipment could impact your comfort, utility bill, and our environment.
To maintain your Energy Star cooling or heating system, checking the filters at least every month is essential, especially in the months when it’s getting heavier usage (winter and summer). At a minimum, it is recommended to change the filter once every three months. Ignoring it will make your system work harder to keep you cooler or warmer, resulting in wasted energy.
